Safety, in all activities, comes first, so it's important for every fisherman to take some time to educate himself on the what to do's and what not to do's when it comes time to hit the waters. While most safety tips come as common sense, there's still always a chance that there'll be some guy, somewhere, that'll forget about what he's been told his whole life when it comes to fishing and then something bad happens. Don't be the guy. Take some time today to remember a few of these simple beginner tips for fishing:

  1. Try not to fish alone – you never know what could happen – but, if you do have to go on your own, make sure to bring a long a cell phone and always tell at least one or two other people where you are and what you're doing.

  2. Don't drink and fish. While some may think this is pretty common, it can prove to be deadly should you try to operate a vehicle or a boat before, during, or after your fishing trip. Save the celebration for after you've gotten home.

  3. Don't just go anywhere to fish. Make sure that you know the rules of the area, are in line with the laws, and aren't in unfamiliar territory. It pays to know where you are and what you're doing.
